A Month of Softies--May Flowers

This was a difficult topic for me. I couldn't seem to come up with something I liked until this guy popped into my head. He's made out of craft felt, pipe cleaners (to help him stand up) and glass beads.

Here's the original drawing.

Two New Handbags

I always wonder if these should be called shoulder bags instead of handbags because they are supposed to be worn on the shoulder, not held in the hand like a clutch. But then again these two could also be called tote bags because that is their shape. But handbags has a nice, old-fashioned ring to it, so that's what I'll call them. Anyway, here they are.

This one is my new everyday purse. It's black denim with a red denim pocket on the outside and reversed on the inside. The cherries are appliqued print cotton and black hand embroidery for the outlines. I kind of wish I'd used a more interesting fabric for the lining, but I like the simplicity of the colors.

This one is grey wool felt on the outside and the same red denim as the above bag for the lining. The applique is also made of wool felt, and is hand embroidered. I know it's hard to see in the picture, but it's there! I've never done this kind of dashed-line (there is probably a more technical term for it) embroidery before and I really enjoyed it. The felt is so soft--it's much more fun to embroider than the stiffer denim.

These are my first two handbags and I'm really proud of them!
